What do we mean by eco? Eco is short for ecology, the science of the relationships of organisms between one another and to their physical surroundings. It is easy to forget that the basic essentials of life; wholesome food, clean water and air, are provided to us by ecosystem services. EcoHub's reason for being is to implement business that renews Earth's ecological systems, to reinstate the balance that supports all living organisms, including us.
Why a hub? The hub sits in the centre of a wheel, it is the point where the spokes meet, it houses the bearings that reduce friction in the process of rotation, facilitating efficient and enduring forward motion. Stemming from its function as a connector at the centre of a wheel, the term hub is also used in network science to describe the node where the links are made in the network. For EcoHub, the word hub is a metaphor for our function of connecting people together in a network that is greater than its constituent parts in order to share sustainable systems, products and services.
